“Festa della Toscana” 2009. Arts, culture, future

The Region of Tuscany has instituted Festa della Toscana with a Decree in 2001, to commemorate the abolition of the death penalty on 30 November 1786. Granducato di Toscana, hold by Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo, had been the first nation to abolish death penalty.

The promotion of human rights, peace and justice, are the other aims of this festival that will spred through the region in November and December, bringing music, theatre, cinema, lectures, art exhibition and much more.

Opening ceremony will be hold on Wednesday, November 25 at 11.00 am, in the little and beautiful town of Camaiore in Versilia. Meanwhile in Florence at 9.30 am in the Auditorium of the Duomo,  Degree & ProfessionFlorence World Festival will start.

Degree & Profession is an international review innovation and creativity of young designers promoted by Fondazione Del Bianco. The show continues until 27 November.

At 5.00 pm in the Regional Council, Florence Carla Fracci 1996-2007 will be presented. The photographic exhibition by Lucia Baldini will document the marvellous career of this dancer. In the same place at 5.30 pm Homo homini lupus, Antonio Possenti painting exhibition against the death penalty.

From 10.00 am – 6.00 pm in Palazzo Vecchio, Salone dei Cinquecento, International Meeting against the Death Penalty will be hold. These are the invited countries that have abolished the death penalty in the last ten years: Albania, Armenia, Bermuda, Bhutan, Burundi, Ivory Coast, Philippines, Gre.ece, Kosovo, Malta, Mexico, Rwanda, Samoa, Senegal, Togo, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan
