Florence Korea Film Fest 2010 (12 – 20 March)

Florence Korea Film fest Korea is back to Florence, with its creative production. This year the Florence Korea Film FestFestival of South Korean Cinema in Italy comes to its eighth edition. It will open from 12th to 20th March 2010, displaying Korea from cinema to music and horror culture.

The festival is organized by Taegukgi, an association conducted by Riccardo Gelli, artistic director that this year presents a large retrospective with the whole work of Hur Jin-ho, who directed some of the most successful horror films in Korea. Keeping high attention on independent filmakers, the festival focuses on most recent award-winning works, but also it offers latest masterpiece from Park Chan-wook.

Network Sonoro 2010

It has been presented these days, the sixth edition of ‘Network Sonoro’, a platform that includes over fifty events distributed throughout the region. The list of prestigious artists participating is full of great names, from Pat Metheny to Stefano Bollani, from Paolo Fresu to Roscoe Mitchell, Ginevra Di Marco, Eumir Deodato and Philiph Harper Quartet.

The festival will spread mainly through February and March in Arezzo, Siena, Pisa, Grosseto, Massa and Florence provinces. Mostly devoted to jazz, it develops a vision on experimental music too, involving particular meetings between musicians.

“Micat in Vertice” – Classical concerts in Siena

teatro dei rozzi sienaAccademia Musicale Chigiana is an important musical institution in Siena. It was founded by the Count Guido Chigi Saracini in 1932. Its first aim is the organization of courses for major musical instruments. The founder managed to call in Siena great musicians to teach in high quality masterclasses of Accademia Chigiana.

One of the Chigiana public events is “Micat in Vertice” that starts places every year in the end of autumn. As a tradition, the first concert is on November 22, in the the feast of St.Cecilia at the Teatro dei Rozzi in Siena.This year mezzo soprano Romina Basso will be accompanied by the Venice Baroque Orchestra.

Puccini – The Girl of the Golden West anniversary celebrations

torre_del_lagoThe Puccini Festival Foundation is preparing to launch the project for the anniversary celebrations of the centenary of the first performance of Puccini’s masterpiece La Fanciulla del West – The Girl of the Golden West, which took place first in New York in December 10, 1910 in the presence of Maestro Puccini.

Celebrations will be supported by an Honorary Committee chaired by the mayor of Viareggio. Torre del Lago, the town where Puccini lived and composed this opera is located nearby the Massaciuccoli lake in the municipality of Viareggio. There is the new Gran Teatro all’Aperto, a big open air theatre where ever summer Puccini Festival takes place.

Italian songwriters in Livorno with Premio Ciampi

arboreIn the name of singer/songwriter Piero Ciampi the prestigious Premio Ciampi-Town of Livorno prize comes to the fifteenth edition, from 14 to 17 November 2009 at Teatro Goldoni.

During these years Premio Ciampi has hosted new authors and discovered new trends, that are changing the history of Italian songwriting. Piero Ciampi died prematurely in 1980, leaving an indelible mark on popular music. The fifteenth edition develops around the symbolic concept of the wall. Not really to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the Berlin Wall Fall, but to focus attention on the different barriers that divide us.
