Festa della Toscana 2009 wants to interchange experiences between the contemporary Japanese culture and the Italian scene. That’s the main reason of these four days dedicated to japanese cinema, from 27 to 31 November.
Rassegna del Cinema Giapponese will start on 27th November in the Church of Santo Stefano al Ponte, presenting movies coming from contemporary Japanese cinema: short action and animation films, film that reached success and are now loved by an international audience and even emerging talents.
An important focus will be dedicated to Yojiro Takita, who triumphed at the Oscars ceremony in 2008, winning Best Foreign Film. Okuribito, indeed, will open the festival on friday evening, during an opening night organized in the extraordinary set of the L’Ultima Cena in Santa Croce (Last Supper of Santa Croce).
The film ‘Sanpei The Fisher Boy’, a live version of the hugely popular animated series, will be screened to complete the tribute of this master.
Many different film genres, from comedy, to elegy to grotesque.
During the festival Piazza Strozzi will be set up from 12.00 to 22.00 with Japanese Flavours, proposing refined tastes of Japanese cuisine, realized in cooperation with the organization for the promotion of Japanese cuisine overseas, and the historical Eito, the first Japanese restaurant in Florence .
Speaking about attractions, musicians and performers have come specially from Japan and they will perform performances in the streets and inside the centre.
Director Tatsuji Yamazaki will hold a series of conferences in the outstanding venues Palazzo Strozzi, the Teatro del Sale (extraordinary historical teahtre that combines art and food) and at the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Florence.
