Carnival has officially stated, since the celebrations have to end 40 days before Easter, according to the Bible. As soon as it ends, in fact, it starts the so-called Lent which prepares you to get ready for the Resurrection of Jesus.
Due to the fact that Easter is on March 31st this year, the first events started last weekend, even if the main festivals, such as the Viareggio Carnival, which are well known in all the world, will continue until the end of February.
The city vibrates, moves, lives, that’s the main claim of the forthcoming edition of Viareggio Mare. Four days, a wonderful scenario, big exhibitions and shows related to professions and resources of the sea.
Viareggio has an ancient heritage regarding ships building, and the sea, as long as the carnival, are the main tourist attractions. Big sandy beaches, a magic landscape with hills, lake and mountains and the charm of the Liberty Style, the Italian modernism that has spread at high level in Tuscany. Viareggio took advantages from naval engineering, utilizing Masters carpenters skills to built giant Carnival floats.
Korea is back to Florence, with its creative production. This year theFlorence Korea Film Fest – Festival of South Korean Cinema in Italy comes to its eighth edition. It will open from 12th to 20th March 2010, displaying Korea from cinema to music and horror culture.
The festival is organized by Taegukgi, an association conducted by Riccardo Gelli, artistic director that this year presents a large retrospective with the whole work of Hur Jin-ho, who directed some of the most successful horror films in Korea. Keeping high attention on independent filmakers, the festival focuses on most recent award-winning works, but also it offers latest masterpiece from Park Chan-wook.
It has been presented these days, the sixth edition of ‘Network Sonoro’, a platform that includes over fifty events distributed throughout the region. The list of prestigious artists participating is full of great names, from Pat Metheny to Stefano Bollani, from Paolo Fresu to Roscoe Mitchell, Ginevra Di Marco, Eumir Deodato and Philiph Harper Quartet.
The festival will spread mainly through February and March in Arezzo, Siena, Pisa, Grosseto, Massa and Florence provinces. Mostly devoted to jazz, it develops a vision on experimental music too, involving particular meetings between musicians.

From 5 to 13 December 2009 the seventh edition of the Florence Biennale will take place in the amazing location of Fortezza da Basso, closed to Santa Maria Novella train station and city centre. This is a special edition with many participating artists. Marina Abramovic and Shu Yong are going to meet visitors inside a rich calendar of conferences and side events.
